Metamec Carriage Clock

This Metamec carriage clock is another one of my car boot sale purchases (1 pound). I now have more carriage clocks than I know what to do with but this clock is in a particularly good condition, it works well and has an old electromagnetic transistor movement (pre-quartz).

There is some information about the electromechanical movement on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_clock

Perivale Electric

I bought this clock last weekend at a car boot sale for 50 pence. The seller was selling all their items for 50 pence!

The clock face has the text 'Perivale Electric' and 'Made in England'. The movement has a synchronous motor but it isn't working. I'm not sure what's original on the clock - someone has had a good 'hack' at the clock and made some pretty crude modifications to it, like cutting a hole in the back cover for the electrical terminals.

How sad - someone has hacked a hole in the back cover of this clock

Croydon Parish Church

I took this photo today from the inside of a bus (number 410) as I passed the Croydon Parish Church.

This church has close links to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Six Archbishops of Canterbury are buried here and ten bishops have been consecrated here.

Note: The current Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, met today with Pope Pope Benedict XVI at Lambeth Palace - http://www.euronews.net/2010/09/17/pope-holds-talks-with-archbishop-of-canterbury/

The Croydon Parish Church clock shows 12pm, but the time was actually 5:18pm.

The doomsday book mentions this church in 1086, but it is thought a church was here from as early as 960.

The church was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1870 after a fire. The architect was Sir George Gilbert Scott.
